How it all started...
A few families, calling themselves Methodists, decided to have a preaching point at Scott's Station, now know as Long Beach. They had no land, no building, and no preacher, but they had great faith in the power of Jesus's name.
The first building available was a discarded railroad car. They they started a church in 1874. In 1875, the church was organized under the pastorate of Rev. Joseph Nicholson. Mrs. Fannie Donovan became the first Sunday School teacher and taught her class of 5 children under the old oak tree.

Expanding the vision...
Our church outgrew the box car, and now First Methodist Church engages in worship in two locations in the city of Long Beach. We are equipped throughout multiple discipleship groups for all ages. We are empowered by the Holy Spirit to serve our local community.
Where we are headed...
Our vision at First Methodist Church is to know Jesus and make Jesus known. We know Jesus and make Jesus known as we engage, equip, and empower people to be his disciples.
Come join us as we build on the faith of previous generations to know Jesus and make Jesus known for years to come.
